Kitchen Storage Baskets

What’s in your kitchen storage baskets and bins? Do you know…or are you scared to even look? Time to de-clutter and get your kitchen organized! The hardest part is getting started, but once you’re done, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get organized sooner.

Step One: Find Out What You Have

The first step in the process is to find out what you actually have! Do you have duplicates of some items because you didn’t remember you had them already? That’s more room being taken up in your storage baskets and shelves that could be used for something else.

Once you have everything out of the cabinets and off the shelves, you need to harden yourself to throwing things out. Use the two years rule; if you haven’t used it in two years, toss it. If it’s still in really good condition and was expensive, sell it or give it away. But if it’s something you really do use, keep it. I’m betting the pile you keep is the smallest of the three!

Step Two: Store it Where in Makes Sense

At this point, you have fewer items that need to go back into place, and now might be the perfect time for more kitchen storage baskets and shelves. What you want to do is store items where they make sense.

For example, you’ll want your everyday dishes, pots and pans easily accessible. Those items you use just a time or two a year can be relegated to spots harder to get at. The kitchen storage baskets can help you to group like things together and make them easier to store.

Step Three: Organize Your Pantry

If you haven’t already re-organized your food storage, it’s time to start. Once again, take everything out of the pantry, off shelves, etc. And yes, the same basic principle applies, except the two year rule is shortened. Foods that are not canned or vacuum sealed need to be evaluated for their freshness; foods on the verge of spoiling not only smell bad, but they can be harmful and make you very sick.

For canned and vacuum-sealed foods, check the expiration date; if it’s past the date, throw it out. And while you are evaluating the foods, get rid of junk foods if you need to drop a few pounds!

Now that you have your pantry shelves cleared, time to put things back, as well as into kitchen storage baskets, for easy access. Don’t let food hide in the back of your cupboards!

Step Four: Using Kitchen Storage Baskets

Baskets make excellent sense, as you can easily move them around. By using the kitchen storage baskets, you’re helping to group items and foods together. The baskets come in many shapes and sizes, so you can find ones that fit where you need them.

Also, these storage baskets are great on kitchen counters; they help keep things together and organized, rather than spread all over the place.

There you go, ideas for de-cluttering using kitchen storage baskets, a little willpower to throw out unused items and some common sense. Now’s a good as time as any to get your kitchen organized!
